Una Ursprung
Born in 1985 in Taipei, Taiwan
Lives and works in Alsace, France
Una Ursprung's artistic practice is rooted in painting, approaching landscape as a way of perceiving time, memory, and inner states. Having lived in Taiwan, Switzerland, and France, her cross-cultural and transregional experiences have shaped a visual language that is fluid, layered, and open. The experience of motherhood in 2022 marked an important turning point in her practice; the repetitive and fragmented rhythms of early childcare heightened her sensitivity to fractured time, fleeting light, and shifts in bodily perception.
In her work, the forest is not only a natural landscape, but also a symbolic and relational space. Through cutting, layering, and recomposition, Ursprung transforms landscape into a visual structure suspended between abstraction and figuration, visibility and concealment. Her painting can be understood as a form of "sensory writing," using color, brushwork, paper, and collage to trace the subtle and continuously shifting relationships between time, memory, motherhood, and the self.
Una Ursprung graduated from Taipei National University of the Arts and the École Européenne Supérieure d'Art de Bretagne in Quimper, France, where she received her DNSEP with the congratulations of the jury. Her recent solo exhibitions include Between Instants, Galerie PJ, Metz, France (2026); Gemstone Forest, Galerie PJ, Metz, France (2024); Following Nature, Delphian Gallery, London, UK (2021) and Accomplishing a Forest, Liang Gallery, Taipei, Taiwan (2017). Her work has also been exhibited internationally, including at Paper Positions Berlin, Luxembourg Art Week, Art Busan, Jeune Création Festival, Art Düsseldorf, Juming Museum, Kuandu Museum of Fine Arts, and Salon de Montrouge.
